Creative and restless, Alex Atala is known, in Brazil and around the world, for exploring, starting at the classic basis and current techniques, the gastronomic possibilities of the local ingredients.
Atala began his career at 19 years old, at the Namur Hotel School, in Belgium. In France, he worked at Jean Pierre Bruneau’s restaurant, rated with 3 stars by the Michelin Guide, and was an intern at the also rated la Cote D’Or Hotel, owned by Chef Bernard Loiseau. After that, he went in search of new endeavors in the kitchens of Montpellier and Milan.
In 1994, Alex returned to Sao Paulo and his performance in several establishments soon got the attention of journalists and gourmets. In the end of 1999 he opened D.O.M., nominated in 2009 the 24º best restaurant in the world, according to the British magazine “Restaurant”.
Currently the Brazilian professional with the biggest recognition for his work, he’s won all the important tittles and awards in the country. As a result of his work, he often takes part in international events, such as the ones at the Ritz and at the Le Meurice Hotels, both in Paris, at the Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapure, and other hotels and restaurants in Canada, Italy and Spain.
Atala has also been attending important international gastronomic events, such as Alimentaria (2004) and Madrid Fusión (2005). In 2006, he was at the Salone Del Gusto – Slow Food, in Turin (Italy), and at the Lo Mejor de La Gastronomia congress, in San Sebastián (Spain).
A former host of the Brazilian cable TV show “Mesa pra Dois” (Table for Two), the chef is also the author of “Alex Atala – Por uma Gastronomia Brasileira” and of “Escoffianas Brasileiras”, written in partnership with journalist Carolina Chagas. Palacio Duhau Park Hyatt
Buenos Aires, 아르헨티나
Walking into the old house of this Park Hyatt brings us back to old Buenos Aires, and yet shows us what’s great about the new Buenos Aires. It’s very fun, I really love it. Underground, you'll find an art gallery. Outside you'll see gorgeous gardens. Buenos Aires is an easy town for those, like me, from Sao Paulo. It’s incredible.
