런던의 새로운 Soho Hotel은 믿을 수 없을 정도 매력적이며 사치스럽고 ‘클래식’하면서 ‘오리지날’한 호화로운 부띠끄 호텔입니다. papier-mache의 비품으로 구성된 부띠끄 호텔과 비교해서 클래식이라 함은 과장되고 보통 이상의 쾌적함이나 튼튼하고 탄탄한 비품이나 설비를 갖춘 런던적 감각에 친숙한 것입니다. 오리지날이란 지금은 오래 사용하여 낡은’화이트 룸’, 저렴한 ‘선미니멀리즘’, 기성품만의 호텔 스탠다드 가구를 사용하는 다른 호텔과는 다르다는 의미입니다.
불만은 딱 한가지 있습니다. 호텔 주위에는 회색빛 빌딩뿐으로 조금 경치가 좋다고는 말할 수 없기 때문입니다. 단지 Soho라고 하는 위치는 훌륭하고 누구하나도 불만스럽게 생각치 않습니다.’아트적 ‘지구가 무엇보다도 허술하게 계획된 장소일지 어떨지는, Soho를 본다면 아직 논의의 여지가 있을것입니다.
